Our daughter Quinn is eight months old, and we were thrilled to see her experience her very first holiday season. Although there were a few presents for Quinn to unbox, she was MUCH more fascinated with the wrapping paper, packing peanuts, and even the boxes themselves. It’s very possible, that she liked the actual unboxing better than the actual gifts inside!
I actually think the same could be said about kids and adults at times. When you think about it, why do we even wrap gifts and put them in bags underneath tissue paper? Sometimes it is the suspense and mystery behind what others thought would be the perfect sentimental gift to give you that provides the magic. Sure, a great gift can be wonderful, but there is something truly special about that reveal.
To be fair, I’ve been thinking about the buildup to a reveal quite a bit lately. After all, we’ve been working on Doomscroll, our strategic social media card game, for about two-and-a-half years now. Just a few weeks ago, we received the near-final production copy of Doomscroll – essentially the version of the game that everyone will receive once our manufacturer produces our thousands of copies over the next few months! Below is our unboxing video of me seeing the oh-so-close version for the first time. To say I was excited was an understatement!
As I watched Quinn this holiday season get excited about opening her presents, I thought about why we all love unboxing videos so much as a society. Truly, I think it is this – we all know how much effort someone else put into making or selecting a gift, wrapping it with care, and then giving it to us to enjoy. For that reason, opening up such a gift is an absolute thrill, and you can only open a gift once. That moment, along with all of the joy, wonder, and excitement, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I saw it in my daughter’s eyes as she took in her first holiday season. I believe you will see it in my eyes as you watch our Doomscroll unboxing video.
On behalf of GamestormEDU, I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season, and I hope you have a fantastic 2025. We’re so excited to bring you the final version of Doomscroll, which you can order on our site today!
