Doomscroll and Baby Quinn are Ready to Roll

My daughter, Quinn, loves to lay on her back and look at a mobile display, her sister vaulting all over the house, or even just stare at the sky. However, I’ve noticed my little 5-month-old begin to get bored with just watching – she’s ready to roll. 

Often I’ve come back after setting her down to chase after her sister, and Quinn has rolled herself over onto her stomach. While it’s exciting to see that my daughter is reaching another milestone, it’s stressful for this dad. It means she’s growing up, and she’s getting ready to crawl, walk, and then … run!

Our newest card game, Doomscroll, is also ready to roll. We’re nearing completion on the last pieces of our single player boards and instructions for the manual. After that? We send off the designs to our manufacturer, LongPack Games. After a few months of manufacturing, Doomscroll will hop on a ship and head to our distribution center in Michigan to head off to our Kickstarter backers and then open for general sales and those who pre-ordered!

I happen to believe it is not a moment too soon for a game like Doomscroll. Our game is not only fun and competitive to play, but it also helps players self-reflect on how social media platforms aim to keep us on our screens using often negative and polarizing posts. Recent health articles and research have noted the rising problems associated with “doomscrolling” on our social media platforms, and I hope that Doomscroll can help us become more self-aware when we are guilty of doomscrolling ourselves.

In addition to doomscrolling, our social media feeds are becoming more and more populated with bad actors aiming to use deceptive tactics to make us both mad AND glued to our devices. Foreign actors create fake news sites, AI-generated images, and even “deepfake” video clips to add to their social media posts in order to stoke fear and distrust between groups of people, and it’s up to us as users to block and report these malicious individuals and organizations. 

Someday Quinn will not just be rolling – she will be engaging in online communities where positivity and truth will not always be easy to come by. I’m hoping Doomscroll, our upcoming game, can help make the online world a slightly better place.
